Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

IMG_0153Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation- $37

If you have oily skin, you have probably heard about the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I bought this for two reasons, 1. I have very oily skin, 2. I still get acne to cover up (adult acne–I hate you). It is without a doubt the longest wearing foundation I own, however it isn’t the lightest feeling foundation either.

Estee Lauder is a great brand and they give you such a generous sample size if you are on the fence about purchasing. I believe I got about a week out of the sample.

Lets get to what everyone wants to know and be prepared, it is very photo heavy….

1. Long wearing

2. Great Coverage

3. Blush and Bronzer stay put

4. Does not take a lot of product to cover the face

5. Photographs beautifully

6. Keeps your face matte for a long time

1. If too much is used, it will leave a cakey appearance

2. Smells of long wearing make up (same smell as Mac Prolong wear concealer)

3. No pump on the bottle

4. Clings to any dry areas on the skin, therefore I wouldn’t recommend this for dry skin

My naked face… nothing on except moisturizer. Even if you are oily, make sure to use moisturizer because the foundation will sit much nicer on your skin.

Here is why I need full coverage, day to day my acne varies but this is about the typical for me. Along with the redness around my nose.

IMG_2937After! What I typically do is apply one layer all over my face with a brush and then add some more foundation just where I need more coverage and then stipple it into my skin with the a brush (The brush doesn’t matter too much, I have used a couple different ones).

Quick tip: I used a radiant primer under the foundation, matte primers and matte foundations together always makes my makeup look heavy and powdery. I also placed a little highlight on the top of my cheekbones to give some life back to my skin.

After the rest of my makeup was applied…

What a lengthy post… sorry about that, it took me a long time to figure out how I liked to wear this foundation and I think I have finally nailed it.

Have a wonderful day!!

Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette

IMG_2846Urban Decay shadows have quite a large following and there was a lot of buzz around the Naked2 Basics Palette when it came out. I finally hopped on the bandwagon and bought the palette over Christmas. I was a little skeptical when I first looked at the shades because I thought they were so light and neutral, I wouldn’t be able to create a good look with them. Then I swatched them and then I bought it…. nuff said! They are soft, smooth, and blend so easily. It is exactly what I have been looking for in matte shadows.

If you have ever used Urban Decay shadows then you know how nice they are to work with and when used with a primer they last all day! The only bad thing I have to say is the shadows can be a bit powdery, but if you tap the excess off your brush the fallout is minimal.

As you can see them swatched on my arm (without primer) they are beautifully matte and the only one with a slight shimmer is Skimp…and by shimmer I don’t mean glittery or over highlighted. It is a perfect browbone and inner corner highlight. IMG_2852 IMG_2850

The black/gray shade, Undone, is not a bold black. I think it is a perfect shade for this palette because it keeps it neutral without being super harsh. It works great in the outer V for a smokey eye or smudged along the lash line in place of liner. Stark, Frisk, and Cover are my favorites. They are perfect for everyday and I really like taking Cover along my lower lash line for definition. IMG_2847 I honestly never thought I could like such a plain palette so much, but in this case less is more. This palette can easily take you from day to night and create looks for any occasion. Not to mention it is like the size of an iPhone so it’s very travel friendly.

I was thinking about doing a post with some eye looks from this palette, what do you think?

Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette– $29

Happy Tuesday!

Target Dash

I think many of you can relate to the relationship between a woman and Target. It has the ability to suck you in and before you know you’ve spent $100 when all you “needed” was bobby pins because you forgot them when you were there a few short days ago. I’ve gathered a couple of my favorite Target finds to help enable us all into finding yet another reason to go to Target.

First up, a dupe for the Bumble and Bumble Thickening spray that has taken the blogging world by storm. For $29 I never was able to convince myself into purchasing it, but I have tried it out a couple times in the store. I was pleased with the added texture and grit it gave my hair, I can definitely see the appeal but my goodness $29?! I stumbled upon the Garnier Fructis Style De-Constucted Texture Tease….. ladies and gentlemen it’s amazing! It feels exactly the same as the B&B spray but only cost $3.49. I use this on my freshly washed hair to give it some added texture and before I backcomb my hair. It helps hold the volume a lot longer and is great to use in the evening if you’re going out and your hair has lost it’s volume from morning. I have even used it in place of dry shampoo and I think I prefer it because it is completely colorless and smells good. Give it a try for sure!

If you’re looking for a gel liner that lasts awhile and is really easy to work with check out the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Eye Liner. It is a really nice consistency to apply smoothly along your lashline and holds the dark black color after application. It comes with a brush that works fine to apply it with as well, not my number one brush but it gets the job done.

Merona mini-satchel handbag

Next, this purse came as a Christmas gift from my husband. He cleverly noted a bag I liked and managed to get the exact one I wanted, color and all. Bravo my husband, Bravo! I love this bag, it is much smaller than I’m used to carrying and it forces me to keep my purse clean and not carry 101 lip products. It is a lovely mustard color and think it brightens up any outfit. It can be carried cross-body or by the two handles. I find it very convenient for being a mom on the go, I can chase my son all over and don’t have to fuss with my bag.

Last on the list are e.l.f. brushes, for brushes that cost $1-$3 you can’t beat them. My two favorites are the blush brush and the contour brush. The blush brush is the perfect size to apply blush right to the apple of your cheeks. I like the control I have with it, especially for those bolder colors. Not to mention the brush hairs are super soft and a breeze to clean. My second favorite is the contour brush, I don’t use this for any contouring– why do brushes always have to have names and make us feel obligated to use it for what it says?… I adore this brush for blending liner and shadow on my lower lash line. It creates a much softer color and prevents the harsh 90’s liner look.

I hope you all have enjoyed a virtual trip to Target with me and have added a few of these to your shopping list. I’m suddenly craving Starbucks… Target and Starbucks go hand in hand right??

*Target has no idea who I am, I simply love Target and wanted to do a post on my favorite items. These are my honest opinions.

Update: Where have I been?

Hello everyone, it seems I have some explaining to do since I dropped off the face of the earth for the past couple months. I have been trying to find time to write a post for awhile now and each time I do, something else will come up. So, as I sit next to my Christmas tree with a nice cup of hot chocolate I am going to soak up the last evening of Thanksgiving break and write a little post…

Where do I begin? Well, I am nearing the end of completing my degree and have been working through some of my hardest classes yet. Honestly, I would prefer to not even mention my current course (pulls hair out). My days are full of being a mommy, wife, friend, and consumed with school work. I am sure many of you have been there. Although, I can’t help but feel like I am not doing something for myself. I miss my blog, it is a nice little place I can come to write about things I love and decompress a little bit.

I have lots of ideas for future blog posts and I hope to begin putting some up again more regularly. I may try for once a week until I finish my degree. Christmas break is coming up and I plan to bust out some posts.

Speaking of Christmas, is it just me or is anyone else feel the need to watch Home Alone 1 & 2, The Holiday, The Family Stone, The Polar Express, and A Christmas Story as much as possible! With Christmas comes all the makeup gift sets, oh. my. goodness. There are so great deals out there I hope to snag some of them up!

My son is starting to understand Christmas a lot more this year and I love seeing the excitement in his eyes every time he turns on the Christmas tree lights. He even ran up and hugged Santa!

Now that I have managed to include the most random of thoughts into this little post I’ll leave you with some of my favorite ornaments…IMG_2515 IMG_2516 IMG_2517 IMG_2518 IMG_2550

Covergirl 3-in-1 Foundation

Covergirl Foundation

Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

I’ve never been that much of a Covergirl fan until I gave this foundation a try. It is great for oily skin and is long wearing! I was looking for a dupe for my Estee Lauder Double Wear from the drugstore and I snagged this foundation for about $10.

One thing I have got to praise Covergirl for is the wonderful packaging. Glass bottle with a pump! I love when foundations have a pump, it’s so much faster when I’m getting ready and less messy!

The formula of this foundation is quite thick and has your typical foundation scent to it. I like to apply it with my Real Techniques expert face brush because it can require a bit of blending to make sure it spreads evenly. I’ve made the mistake of not blending enough and had darker spots near my jawline…ahhh what a nightmare!

I wear this foundation all day, literally all day… 10+ hours and it holds up very well. I do get some breakdown around my chin but honestly I don’t know a foundation that won’t do that after 10 hours.

I usually apply a primer but I find this foundation works better for my oily skin when I apply it straight away. My blush and bronzer apply nicely over it as well.

I would not recommend this for someone with dry skin because it does provide a matte finish and I would anticipate it to cling to dry areas.

I’ve included before and after photos below so you can see the coverage and finish.

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain

Colorstay Lip Stain

Shade Barcelona Nights

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain

I have a bad habit of putting on a lipgloss or lipstick when I do my make up in the morning and then go hours without reapplying. Many times you can’t tell what color I was supposed to have on or it looks patchy. I recently tried the new Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains because I am a fan of the colorstay line. It did not disappoint.

When you first apply the stain it goes on smooth and leaves a glossy appearance. It does not cling to dry areas and has even coverage. As you wear it the formula starts to feel creamier and more like a gloss. Best of all once most of the product is gone it doesn’t make your lips dry! This is huge for me since I always have dry lips. I also didn’t feel like the product faded horribly. The stain left behind stays strong for a couple hours.

Barcelona Nights

IMG_1635IMG_1668The stain is serious too! Once I applied the swatch to my arm I literally took the picture and went to wash it off. I had to wash twice and scrub to get it off. I’d say it works pretty well.

I also love the packaging and the applicator. The applicator is similar to a teardrop shape and makes it very easy to be precise about applying the stain. Good job Revlon!

Birchbox: July 2014

I can’t believe I’m already on the third Birchbox review for my blog. This months was a really good one! Lets dive right into reviewing.

Miss Jessie’s Original Jelly Soft Curls $14: I am seriously considering purchasing this cream. I have wavy, sometimes curly hair naturally and usually just straighten it or curl it with a curling iron. I have already tried this cream and am very impressed. I applied it to my damp hair and let it air dry. It really gave my hair some bounce and did keep my hair soft. It smells amazing and doesn’t weight my hair down. Someone actually thought I got a perm when I used this! I can’t wait for my hair to grow out some and see how it works then.

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil $18: This is a nice mint scented lip pencil. It provides good color and applies really easy. If you have dry lips I wouldn’t recommend this pencil, it has a tendency to stick to dry areas.

Swatch of LAQA & CO. Lip Pencil

RUFFIAN Nail Laquer in Rosary $11: This is my second polish from RUFFIAN and I really like them. I got to choose what color I received this month and I went for a rose gold. I love it! It’s a beautiful metallic, not something I would normally wear but it’s perfect. I adore the packaging it comes in and look forward to getting more. I was also sent a packet of RUFFIAN nail polish remover. It is non acetone and comes on a nice cloth. However, it has a very “old lady” smell to it and it really lingers. Not a fan.

Real Chemistry Luminous 3- Minute Peel $48: As a mom I need quick facial treatments. Although I do love a good face mask this peel was so fast and effective. I have never used anything like it before. You apply it and let it sit for about 30 seconds and then rub it in for 2-3 minutes. When I rinsed it off my face was much smoother and brighter. I feel like it helped with dry patches as well.

Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream $38: For a 99% natural eye cream this is a good one. I can never tell the long term effects of an eye cream by a sample, but I instantly felt this one working. My under eyes feel tighter and hydrated. I can’t make any claims about how well it works for fine lines but I am loving it so far. IMG_1572 How was your Birchbox this month?

Maybelline’s The Rocket Mascara

The Rocket Mascara

Maybelline’s The Rocket Mascara

I forgot how much I love this mascara. I recently did a clean out of my mascaras because somehow I had ended up with 5 and they all needed to be thrown out. I picked up a new tube of the Rocket since I hadn’t used it in about 6 months. The length it gives my lashes is amazing, and it stays put!

The Rocket Mascara openIt’s a pretty wet formula that is applied with a rubber wand. It can be a bit messy at times. I find I need to work quickly with my application but once it’s on it stays. I usually have a problem with mascara smudging on both my eyelid and under my eye. Honestly, it has smudged a bit under my eyes but not all the time. I am so oily it is pretty inevitable. I bought the waterproof formula and it can be tough to get off at the end of the day but that’s okay because it has such good staying power.

the rocket applied

IMG_1608Here is a photo of me wearing the mascara. I don’t tend to apply lots of coats. This is 2 coats on my top lashes and barely brushing my lower lashes. It’s such an affordable mascara and I find it is better than a lot of high end brands I’ve bought.

What’s your favorite mascara?

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate $46 for 1 ounce

Get ready for a photo heavy post. This post has been 5 weeks in the making. I have been desperately trying to clear up my skin and haven’t found the perfect skin care regime yet, it’s always a work in progress.

I had heard so many wonderful things about the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate from YouTube, Blogs, and even my hairdresser that I had to give it a try. I have oily skin so I was a little skeptical about trying an oil on my skin for fear it would cause breakouts. I am happy to say that out of 5 weeks I only had one week of bad breakouts and that is possibly due to another product I tried. Scroll through to see my results.

First a bit about the product- It has a strong herbally smell that may not be for everybody. I personally like it and I don’t notice it after a few minutes. I only apply this at night, 3-4 drops is enough to cover my face so this bottle will last forever!  As far as packaging goes, I mean come on. It is amazing! A nice blue glass bottle with a dropper  to get the product out. It’s very easy to manage the amount of product you get so none will be wasted.

kiehls dropper

Now a lot of people say they noticed a huge difference the first night they used this, I wouldn’t go as far to say that. However, this product has helped my dark spots and redness so much. In the past two years I have been struggling with cystic type acne on my cheek area and this has helped resolve the blemishes and scarring left behind. I am the type of person that once I have a breakout, the scar lingers for weeks. The concentrate speeds up that process a ton!

Let the photos begin

After one week I didn’t see a huge difference but I did notice some of my make up sitting better on my face. I feel like my skin was more hydrated.

Below are the last pictures I took, they are after using the concentrate for 5 weeks and making no other changes to my skin care regimen. I am happy with the results, I don’t know how well it will come across on camera but I do feel my scarring has improved and my skin just looks brighter. All photos were taken in the same room with the same lighting to get the best comparison.

Benefit’s World Famous Neutrals Palette

full shot

Benefit’s World Famous Neutrals $30

I’ve had this palette for about a year now and really haven’t given it enough love. I thought giving it a review would help me rediscover it. I love Benefit products and originally wanted to try out their creaseless cream shadows but stumbled upon this set and got the best of both worlds. Cream shadows and powder shadows.

angled shot

As you can see these are very neutral colors, my favorite! I love that you don’t have to exclusively use them in the winter or summer.

world famous neutralscream shadowsMy favorite shadows are definitely the creaseless cream shadows. They are longwearing, no primer needed and the color payoff is great. The consistency is creamy and smooth, not a dry consistency by any means. Like I said, I have had these for about a year and haven’t had issues with them drying out.

I just apply them with my finger and blend out the edges, that’s it! I sometimes will just use Birthday Suit (the lighter cream shadow) all over my lid and call it a day. For something a little more, I will use My Two Cents on the outer corners. Again, just applying it with my finger and blending it together. Nothing too defined because I prefer it to kind of smudge together. When I run out of these smaller sizes, I will definitely repurchase them.

Above shot Naturals

Onto the powder shadows, I wasn’t as impressed with these as I was hoping. I just didn’t find the color payoff was that great when used alone. I can place them on top of the cream shadows for extra color but trying to create a look with just the powder shadows didn’t blow me away. With that being said, they aren’t terrible. I think I just had high expectations after the cream shadows. The colors are beautiful and would work to create a smokey eye or a natural look. My favorite shade is Call My Bluff, it’s a matte cream shade that is great for the browbone. Kiss Me I’m Tipsy is probably my least favorite because of the small flecks of glitter in it. You can see in the swatch how different it looks once applied.

Left to Right Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit and My Two Cents Powder Shadows in Call My Bluff, It’s Complicated, Gilt-y Pleasure, and Kiss Me, I’m Tipsy

Overall, if you are wanting to try some Benefit eye products this is a good buy for $30. Great for your everyday needs and the cream shadows double as a primer for the shadows.

I hope this was helpful. Thanks for reading!
